On Friday 14th November 2008, 28
anglers descended upon Kingfisher Lake, Thetford for the annual Carp Connection
Winter Social.
After the walk off style draw for swims, the
attendees settled down in their chosen
swims. On the Friday night, we had arranged
to provide a Burger Bar for all the anglers.
With the charcoal lit and chef Bumpy
tirelessly cooking a large amount of
sumptuous offerings, the first chance and
carp landed fell to Basil, with a small
common stocky.
After the last of the burgers was devoured,
the carpers drifted back to their swims to
cast out for the night. At 11pm there
appeared to be a feeding spell, with two
fish caught at the same time.
Beanie with his 22lb 2oz mirror carp
First up was Tinca Tinca with a 12lb common
caught from peg four on a CC Moores Mix
boilie from under his rod tips. Whilst at
the other end of the lake, Beanie was
slipping the net under a stunning 22lb 2oz
heavily scaled mirror, which turned out to
be the largest fish caught over the weekend.
At 3:30am over on the opposite bank,
Secretbob had some action from another of
the stockies in Kingfisher, landing a
stunning little 10lb mirror on a
Tutti-Fruiti boilie. Bob's fish was the last
of the fish out on the first evening.
The next morning, Greenus caught a 7lb
common from swim 8, this was caught from
tight to the island on a Mistral Vanilla
Spice Pop-up.
Toobusy in the swim next door followed it up
soon after with another of the recently
stocked commons at 12lb, caught on a White
Chocolate Pop-up.
All the anglers reeled in on the Saturday
evening for a BBQ, and enjoyed a couple of
drinks together in the mild weather.
Sadly, although conditions looked spot on
for more fish overnight on the Saturday, the
chances dried up. We hope that all the
anglers enjoyed an excellent weekend, and we
look forward to seeing you all again soon.
